Linear Gauge
The Linear Gauge is a visualization of tools with a linear scale, such as thermometers, tanks, color indicators (LED), and so on.
Data values can be displayed on a linear gauge axis with the help of pointers, markers, or ranges.
Generally speaking, linear gauges have two main characteristics: axis and pointer.
1. Bullet Chart.
The Bullet Chart features a color scale that represents a qualitative parameter (poor, good, and excellent) and is accompanied by a lengthwise bar showing the actual data. To display a target value, bullet charts may also have a marker. Although a bullet chart cannot be helpful in monitoring trends because it does not show past values of parameters, this type of diagram is an irreplaceable tool for visualizing specific results/targets achieved at the current moment.
2. Thermometer Chart.
The Thermometer Chart is a type of the Linear Gauge drawn in the form of a thermometer. Essentially, it is a column with a round bulb at the bottom. Axes usually feature a linear scale to display the temperature information and are positioned alongside of such a column. The fill level of the bar corresponds to data values.
3. Tank Chart.
The Tank Chart is a linear gauge depicted as a filled barrel, or tank. Located just next to it, a scale shows how full the tank is.
4. LED Chart.
The LED Chart is similar to the Circular Gauge but features a horizontal or vertical axis instead of a circular one. In this type of visualization, data are displayed by dividing the LED into two parts on each side of a given value. The graph itself consists of small bars filled with different colors, making it visually split into groups.
